Bell’Anima (Italian for “Beautiful Soul”) is a non-profit foster based organization dedicated to rescuing and placing abandoned animals in Montreal, Quebec.

Meet Dalia from Bell’Anima
bitty paws: Why did you get involved with Bell’Anima?
Dalia: Bell’Anima was founded only last year, exactly a year ago actually by 6 like-minded people who had been volunteering for different local animal rescues and got to know each other through our involvement in animal welfare. We knew we needed to start something together because our ideas fit in with each other.
bp: Approximately how many animals have you helped to date?
Dalia: We just recently realized we had re-homed in just under a year over 140 animals. And that number was 2 weeks ago, so it grows everyday!
bp: What is the most rewarding aspect of the work you do?
Dalia: Every single time we take an animal that otherwise would not have made it is the best reward. It’s very shortlived because the next minute you’re on to the next emergency, but that little moment you tell yourself, ok, he/she’s safe now, is like no other. It’s a feeling everyone needs to experience one day. Knowing that animal would not be wagging its tale that day had you not been there for them.
bp: How long have you been in operation?
Dalia: We’ve all been volunteers for about 10 years give or take but Bell’Anima was founded in May of 2011.
bp: Do you have any advice/words of wisdom for our readers about pet adoption?
Dalia: Yes! So much! Consider all the amazing animals that are out there looking for a home, a second chance, that are in foster or in shelters. They are all good cats and dogs given up because of human’s mistakes. Think really hard about the comittment that is involved in adopting an animal, think about where you’d be in 10-15-20 years, what your plans are. If you think a long-term comittment is too much to take on right now, Foster!
